Use: Its single ester is a non-ionic surfactant, 

but also can interact with alcohol to produce 

ether. It is a solvent for vegetable oils, resins

 and paraffins, and is also used in the preparation

 of alkyd resins, emulsifiers, anti-emulsifiers, 

lubricating oils and plasticizers.
